A Comparative Study of Closure of Tympanic Membrane Perforation between Chemical Cauterization and Fat Plug Myringoplasty

چکیده
The purpose of closure of small dry tympanic membrane perforations is to restore the continuity of the tympanic membrane in order to improve hearing and decrease the incidence of middle ear infections. Small and cost effective procedures like Chemical Cauterization and Fat Plug Myringoplasty have been found to be effective in healing small central perforations with significant hearing improvement. A study was carried out in 69 patients with central perforations in the Department of ENT, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital for the duration of 1 year from August 11 to July 12. Out of 69 patients, 36 underwent Chemical Cauterization and 33 Fat Plug Myringoplasty. Preand post-operative hearing assessments of each patient were done and statistically analyzed. The success rate was found to be 83.33% and 90.9% respectively. In both groups, there was statistically significant hearing improvement with a P value 0.01. From our study, it was found that the two procedures are simple, reliable and also lessened the morbidity of the patient. Thus we recommend the use of these two official procedures for the treatment of central perforations of tympanic membrane less than 5 mm.

Comparison of Grafting Success Rate and Hearing Outcomes between Primary and Revision Tympanoplasties
Introduction: There are a few studies that compare the outcomes between primary and revision tympanoplasties. The purpose of the present study was to compare the results of type I tympanoplasty (i.e., synonymous to myringoplasty) and revision myringoplasty based on the closure of tympanic membrane perforation and hearing improvement. Materials and Methods: Thisprospective single-blind study was...
متن کاملA comparative study of different graft materials used in myringoplasty.
Two hundred twenty cases of unilateral chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) with dry central perforation were chosen for this study and myringoplasty were done. Age group ranged from 13 to 48 years. Four types of autogenous tissues were used as graft material. Grafting was done by underlay technique when temporalis fascia, tragal perichondrium, areolar tissue were used as graft material and ...

OBJECTIVE To identify factors that significantly influence myringoplasty success. METHODS A retrospective study was performed of all adults and children who underwent myringoplasty from January 2005 to January 2010 in a teaching hospital. Outcome measures were tympanic membrane perforation closure and air-bone gap closure to within 20 dB HL. The factors assessed were the surgeon grade, pre-op...

OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy of three different myringoplasty techniques, namely hyaluronic acid fat graft myringoplasty (HAFGM), fat graft myringoplasty (FGM), and temporal fascia for the closure of different sizes and sites of tympanic membrane perforations. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients who had undergone a type 1 tympanoplasty operat...
